Crosswords While Walking

Kind of a funny street shot I took this summer. I’m not sure how stoked this guy was I was taking his picture haha. He couldn’t have cared too much thought, because he didn’t say anything to me :).

Rob Moses Photography

I was walking across the Centre Street Bridge here in Calgary the other day and I saw this guy walking up the bridge doing a crossword puzzle while walking! I put my camera up to my face and kept walking in his direction waiting for him to put his face up to see where he was going like a whale in the sea bobbing up for air haha. As soon as that face popped up, CLICK! Gotchya! And I just kept on walking haha. His facial expression is hilarious, because he seems to be confused as to why there is a camera in his face rather than another zombie faced pedestrian haha. I love these little street photography interactions with people :).

Around The Bridge Shooting Mobile

Here are a couple Calgary pictures I took with my Sony QX100. A funny little camera that produces good results :).

Rob Moses Photography

Last week I decided to dig out my Sony QX100 and snap a couple of photos with it when I was walking downtown one day. In the first shot, I was crouching on the grassy hill by the street waiting for a biker to come by, when this guy came zooming I got the shot I was after :). In the 2nd shot I was perched on this little bridge look out and just took the shot when I had a few interesting people in the shot to hold down the bottom edge of the shot.

If you’re not familiar with the Sony QX100, it attaches (or not) to your phone via wifi and uses your phone as the view finder. It then saves a 18mp shot to a micro SD and a 2mp shot to your phone for sharing (there are many other saving options). The images are pretty…

Ramah – Sudan to Calgary

I met this fellow on a popular pathway by the river near Edwothy Park. I had just arrived, got my stuff ready and he was the first person to walk in my direction. While he was walking towards me I noticed he was wearing headphones, so my first thought was to just let him pass by, but I made the split second decision to just walk over to him, get his attention and then tell him what I was up to. Right when I stopped him and he took off his head phones I could tell he was a nice guy. I told him what was up and he happily agreed to participate. Here is what Ramah had to say.

Train Into The City

This is one my favourite pictures I took of the summer. It’s one of the subway bridges going over a street with part of the Calgary Skyline in the background.

Rob Moses Photography

I shot this photo last night from SAIT (a local college). I got there a bit early and tried a few shots while it was lighter out, but I knew waiting till the sun when down more would give a much better effect. Once the sun went down more I waited for a train to go by so I could get the lights streaks in the shot. I had my camera on a 2 second timer, but timing for the train was still rather easy because just before the train comes into frame there is a cross walk with bells that ring. Anyhow, it was a nice night and I’m happy with the picture :).

Cecilia – Writing in Cosmopolitan Calgary

I ran into Cecilia at one of my favourite photo spots in the city, Crescent Road at the top of McHugh Bluff Park. I had just arrived there and got all my stuff ready to go when I saw Cecilia walking towards me. I said to my self, “this girl looks like the prefect candidate”. I walked over to her and told her what I was up to and if she was interested in participating, clearly she was and I couldn’t have been happier. I love it when the first person I ask says yes :).

Sunset Over Calgary

I shot this one a week or so ago and thought it might also be worth sharing here :).

Rob Moses Photography

I shot this on Tuesday evening off an overpass near my house. The previous day I was driving over said overpass at the exact same time I took this picture. As I crossed the overpass I saw right away what a great shot it could be, so I noted the time and came back the next day. The photo is not exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, but it’s pretty close :).

That Shaw TV Calgary Thing

Hey guys (& gals), here is that Shaw TV thing I mentioned in the last couple posts! It was produced by Shiva Jahanshah (@ShivaJahanshah). We filmed this at the Core shopping centre downtown in Calgary. For people who have never been here, it is just what it sounds like, the major shopping centre in the downtown core :). We started off with a little interview and then they had do my thing and talk to some strangers. I think I sound a little weird in the very beginning, but what are ya gonna do haha.

Thank you so much for putting that together Shiva! We gotta get you on here one of these days ;).

Thanks for stopping by, Rob

Matthew – Loves Diverse Calgary

I met Matthew the same day I met the last guy, Joe. In fact I talked to 3 people that day :). When I approached Matthew he was with a friend. I had asked both of them if they wanted to be interviewd, but only Matthew was up for it. 1 is better than none! Here is what Matthew had to say.

Matthew People of Calgary Guy Man Head shot bokeh - Rob Moses photography - Vancouver Seattle Washington Portrait Photographer PhotographersCamera: Canon 5D mark iii & 50mm 1.4 ~ Settings: 1/2500 – f/1.4 – ISO 320

1. Where are you from?
Originally from Calgary. You want to know my ancestors?

Rob: Sure!

Matthew: My mom’s Romanian and my dads Italian, so we have that ethnic background which is why I love Calgary, a lot. And I speak Italian.

Rob: Cool! So are you the first born Canadian in your family?

Matthew: Ya, my mom is from Romania and my dad is from Northern Italy, so ya it’s a cool mix. They love Calgary as well.

Rob: Ya it’s a good spot. So you’ve lived there all your life then?

Matthew: Yes I have, well actually I lived in Florida for a bit, it’s totally different. I’m not gonna lie, I actually like it here a lot more. The people are a lot better, a lot more intuitive and I feel like they are a lot smarter and a lot more diverse.

Rob: So you like living in Calgary then.

Matthew: Ya I love Calgary.

Rob: So what is about living in Calgary that you like exactly, besides great people.

Matthew: I like the environment. I like the night life, it’s cool you get to meet a lot of new people. And also the air, it feels a lot healthier and a lot more fresh. I also like the views.

2. What do you like to do for fun?
I like to play instruments. The music scene here is pretty good.

Rob: Cool, what do you play?

Matthew: I play the guitar and piano, although I am trying to produce in my off time. I also like the bar and club scene.

3. If you had to describe Calgary to some one, what would you say?
Defiantly not a hick town! It’s very different. There are so many different types of people here. You get a peace of everything, of every culture and every walk of life, so that’s what I love.

Rob: Great, me too! I’m with ya there.

4. Have you ever ridden a horse?
No I haven’t. (Laughter). People think it’s all about cowboys and it’s not haha.

5. Anything you’d like to add?
For people who don’t really know much about Calgary, it’s not really that isolated and it’s a modern city, so you’ll definitely like that aspect. Everything is here and you can try so many different things here and that’s why I would recommend Calgary.
