No Cars on 7th Ave

Calgary 7th Ave Fire Trucks - Rob Moses Photography

This is not your typical street photography shot, but this is not your typical street. This is 7th Avenue in Calgary. Strange thing about this street is you are not allowed to drive on it and it is right in the middle of downtown Calgary! The city has reserved 7th Avenue strictly for trains and buses. When I first learned of this I found it to be quite strange, as I had never seen such a thing. I don’t know how typical this is compared to other cities, but to me it seems rather strange. On the edge of the east side of downtown one of the train lines is underground and comes aboveground as it turns onto 7th Ave. In my opinion they should have just kept the train underground as it went through the downtown core. I honestly can’t see why they wouldn’t have done that, especially since we have such long winters here in Calgary. I am sure it has something to do with the cost of putting the train underground, but I think it would have been worth it in the long run. At least the train is free downtown!

* Incase you where wondering, I shot this from a pedestrian over pass and I have no idea what all those fire trucks were doing there haha. Sorry 😉
